BNP website ‘off’ after Zia ‘controversy’

Update : 29 Mar 2014, 09:15 AM

The official website of BNP is currently unavailable to viewers after reports run that it did not support Khaleda Zia’s claim on Ziaur Rahman’s presidency.

“Ever feel like you are in the wrong place,” the message read on the homepage of the website on Saturday in addition to the “404 not found” message.

On Thursday, Dhaka Tribune ran a report that the BNP website acknowledged Ziaur Rahman as the seventh president of Bangladesh, in contradiction to Khaleda Zia’s claim.

Earlier, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and her elder son, also the senior vice chairman of the party, Tarique Rahman claimed Zia the first president of the country.

Ziaur Rahman, commander of the Z force during Liberation War, was the seventh president of Bangladesh, Banglapedia says. He later formed the BNP in 1978.
