Yunnan governor due in city

Update : 29 Mar 2014, 04:50 AM

Governor of Yunnan Province of China Li Jiheng will arrive on a 3-day official visit here on Saturday.

He will be leading a six-member delegation including high officials of the government of Yunnan Province, reports BSS.

During the visit, the governor is also expected to call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, Communications Minister Obaidul Quader and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam.

Li Jiheng and members of his delegation will hold a meeting with the President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI) Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed.

The governor is likely to discuss possible areas of mutual cooperation between Bangladesh and China in general and Bangladesh and Yunnan province in particular.

Besides, the latest development of the BCIM-EC, a regional integration concept originated from Yunnan's capital Kunming 15 years ago, is also likely to figure prominently during the discussions between the governor and the Bangladesh leadership.

The first meeting of the Joint Study Group (JSG) of the BCIM- EC took place in Kunming in December 2013. The foreign secretary led a high level Bangladesh delegation to that meeting.

The second meeting of the JSG is scheduled to be held in June in Chittagong.

Li Jiheng is scheduled to depart Dhaka on March 31.
