The by-election in Tangail 8 constituency ended peacefully on Saturday.
Vote counting is underway in the parliamentary seat.
The voting began at 8am and continued nonstop until 4pm through 117 polling centres, Returning Officer Syed Mohammad Khurshid Anwar said.
Four candidates including Awami League-backed and its rebel candidate are running the race.
The constituency, including Basail and Sakhipur upazila, fell vacant after death of Showkat Momen Shajahan on January 20 this year.
The Awami League’s nominated candidate for this election is Anupam Shajahan Joy, son of the late Shawkat Momen.
Abdul Malek is a rebel candidate of the Awami League while the others are Sadek Siddiqui of Jatiya Party (Manju) and independent candidate Liakat Ali.
