The residents of Tangail 8 constituency are all set to cast their votes in a by-election on Saturday.
The polling will open at 8am and continue till 4pm without any break.
On January 20, the parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of Awami League MP Shawkat Momen Shajahan.
Election Commissioner Mohammad Abu Hafiz said the Election Commission has taken all necessary preparations in regard to the by-poll in Tangail 8.
Meanwhile, he hoped that the by-polls will be free and fair.
Shawkat Momen’s son Anupam Shahjahan of the ruling Awami League, Sadek Siddiqui of JP (Manju) and independent Abdul Malek (AL rebel) and Principal Abu Sayeed (AL rebel) and Liaqat Ali are contesting the by-election to the parliamentary constituency.
The constituency has a total of 307,382 voters, including 145,576 men and 161,806 women. The voting will take place at 711 booths of 117 polling stations in the by-election.
Of them, 119,077 voters are under 49 polling stations in Basail upazila that comprises of a municipality and six union parishads, and 188,305 voters under 68 polling stations in Sakhipur upazila that comprises of a municipality and eight union parishads.
On February 13, the Election Commission announced the schedule for the by-election.
