A third year honours student committed suicide yesterday after she was barred from participating in the national anthem event at her college in Shailakupa upazila of Jhenaidah.
Deceased Niharika Khatun Aruna, 23, daughter of Abdul Aziz of Bijulia village was a student of Islamic history at Kushtia Government Women’s Degree College.
Her father told the Dhaka Tribune that he had asked her not to go as there were household chores to do.
Aruna’s uncle Miraj Hossain filed an unnatural death case with Shailakupa police station, saying: “As she was asked not to join the event, Aruna shut the door of her room and hanged herself from the ceiling with a scarf around 10am.”
She was buried without post mortem examination with the deputy commissioner’s permission, Shailakupa OC said.
