A BNP activist has died in a blast at Shaheed Minar premises of Shibganj upazila, Chapainawabganj while paying respects for Independence Day.
The dead has been primarily identified as Asaduzzaman Sujon, a BNP activist, according to police. Several others have been injured in the explosion.
The blast took place when BNP supporters were placing wreath at the Shaheed Minar in the early hours of Wednesday, Shibganj police Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Asaduzzaman said.
BNP activists Sujon, Alauddin, Shafiqul and Islam were seriously injured in the blast, he added. “Sujon died while being taken to a Rajshahi hospital.”
OC Mohammad Asaduzzaman suspected that it was Sujon who was carrying the bomb that might have been a handmade bomb.
