30 injured in fight for market domination

At least 30 people were injured and 15 business establishments vandalised when people from five separate villages locked in clashes again in Sailkupa upazila, Jhenaidah.

This was the second successive day of clashes that took place in Umedpur union on Tuesday for domination over a local market Royerah Bazar.

Villagers of Royerah, Taminager, Aruaakandi, Gobindapur and BLK, armed with local lethal weapons such as long daggers and bows and arrows, clashed in the afternoon.

Locals complained the clash took place in front of the law enforcers and could have been averted if the police would prompt into action.

Witnesses said at least 30 people were injured, 15 shops were vandalised and some more were looted during the clash.

Sailkupa police Officer-in-Charge Maniruzzaman Mollah acknowledged that the people of five villages locked into clashes for the second day. “Police have been deployed to maintain law and order in the area.”
