The customs officials have seized 923 gold bars worth Tk 46.15 crore at the Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong on Tuesday morning.
The gold bars weighed approximately 107kg, Mashiur Rahman Mondol, assistant commissioner at the airport, told the Dhaka Tribune.
The customs officials detained 10 passengers in this connection.
Mashiur said: “Customs officials searched a suspicious passenger of the flight BG 206 which arrived at Shah Amanat from Dubai at 11:05am. They found some the bars under his seat.”
Later, the officials imposed red alert for searching the plane and recovered the bars from seven of the passengers.
Officer-in-Charge of Immigration Abdus Salam Chowdhury said: “This is the largest ever haul at the airport in Chittagong.”
