The Russian ruble has become a monetary unit in the annexed Crimea on Monday, according to Ukrinform, the only national news agency of Ukraine.
In Crimea and Sevastopol ruble will be used to pay taxes, salaries to state employees, social benefits, and to settle on any payments, if one of the parties is a resident of Russia.
The Russian authorities have decided that until January 1, 2016 the national currency of Ukraine - hryvnia - will also be circulated in the peninsula, with both cash and non-cash payments.
Earlier on Thursday, Interfax, a Russian non-governmental news agency, quoted Crimea's vice premier Rustam Temurgaliyev as saying that Crimea was ready to "nationalise" state property as part of plans to join the Russian Federation.
