Chairman of Gazaria union parishad has been killed in a clash between two groups of ruling Awami League on Sunday morning.
Deceased Shamsuddin Prodhan, 65, was also the president of Baluakandi union Awami League.
Returing Officer Sarowar Morshed Chowdhury said the supporters of Awami League-backed chairman candidate Amirul Islam and rebel candidate Refayet Ullah Khan locked in a clash near Baluakandi Dr Abdul Gaffar School and College centre around 11am.
Shamsuddin Prodhan was chopped in the clash that left him critically injured. He was rushed to Gazaria upazila health complex where duty doctor declared him dead, said the returning officer.
Locals said Shamsuddin Prodhan supported Awami League-backed chairman candidate Amirul Islam in the election.
