Update : 23 Mar 2014, 06:44 AM

One person has been shot during clashes that compelled authorities to suspend voting in a polling station of Satkania upazila, Chittagong on Sunday.

The incident took place during the fourth phase of upazila election across the country, for what the Election Commission sought security from the military.

About 150 miscreants snatched ballots from Chotohatia Haji Laxmi Bibi Madrasa centre around 10:30am, Presiding Officer Belal Mohammad Chowdhury said.

“The miscreants fired several shots aiming at the law enforcers leaving one person shot at the spot,” he said. The wounded could not be identified.

Polling centre in-charge Nayek Jyotirmoy Chakma said he did not fire back due to insecurity. “We were only three policemen and some Ansar members without arms.”
