President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have joined separate milads and doa mahfils in the city marking the first death anniversary of late President Zillur Rahman.
Abdul Hamid attended the milad at Darbar Hall of Bangabhaban after the Asr prayers. Pesh Imam of Bangabhaban Jam-e-Mosque, Saiful Kabir, conducted the milad and a special prayer.
During the prayer, eternal peace was sought for the departed soul of the late President Zillur Rahman and peace and prosperity for the country was sought as well.
On the other hand, Sheikh Hasina joined the milad mahfil at the residence of Zillur Rahman at Gulshan in the capital after Asr prayers.
Besides, Deputy Leader of the Jatiya Sangsad Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, PM's Security Adviser Major General (retd) Tariq Ahmed Siddique, AL Presidium Member Advocate Sahara Khatun, former Deputy Speaker Shawkat Ali and AL Publicity Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud, PM's Special Assistant Mahbubul Hoque Shakil and the people from all strata attended the milad.
A special prayer was held on the occasion seeking eternal peace of the departed soul of late president.
Zillur Rahman, also a close associate of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and an organiser of the War of Liberation, died of old-age complications at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore on March 20 last year.
