A Bangladeshi youth, Turjoy Chowdhury, has won the 2014 Sony World Photography Award’s Youth Award for capturing a photograph on environment.

The World Photography Organisation (WPO) has announced the category winners of the year.

Turjoy Chowdhury won the award in the environmental category out of three categories; culture, environment and portraits.

Borhan Mardani of Iran won the Youth Award in the culture category, while Paulina Metzscher of Germany received the award in the portrait category.

Each winner received a Sony a5000 camera and will be having their work exhibited as part of the Sony World Photography Awards exhibition in London in May and published in the annual book.

From the three category winners, one overall Youth Photographer of the Year will be selected and will be flown to London to collect their award on April 30.

The winning photographs had been selected from more than 70,000 entries from across the world.

The Sony World Photography Awards is widely recognised as the leading global photographic awards programme in existence.

Launched in 2008, the awards are dedicated to supporting and refining photographic culture through a range of annual competitions.
