Smugglers attack BGB men, damage rifle

Two members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have sustained severe injuries as a gang of smugglers attacked them in Nabinagar area of the district on Monday afternoon.

BGB commander of Joypurhat 3 Lt Col Md Abdur Razzak said BGB members Shahadat Hossain, 35, and Abdul Aziz, 36, came under the attack in the afternoon while they were returning to the local BGB camp after recovering smuggled valuables from inside a bus on Panchbibi-Kamdia road.

A gang of smugglers attacked the BGB members with local weapons, vandalised their microbus and damaged a rifle while snatching away the seized Indian goods, added the BGB commander.

However, he could not disclose the identity of any of the attackers.

Later, the injured BGB members were admitted at Joypurhat District Adhunik Hospital.

No report of arrest or filing of any case in this regard has been received till 6pm.
