Three women have died in an explosion caused by a gas cylinder blast of a microbus in Fatikchhari upazila, Chittagong.
Seven others have been injured in the explosion that took place in Suabil area of Fatikchhari upazila around 9:30am, on Monday police and locals said.
The deceased have been identified as Halima Begum, 60, Kajol Akhter, 35, and Parveen Akhter, 30.
Hathazari Circle ASP AFM Nizamuddin confirmed the Dhaka Tribune about the casualties.
He said police suspected that four people were killed after seeing the skulls of the victims from outside of the microbus. Later, they found three women dead.
Earlier, both police and local sources informed that the accident have also claimed the life of Parveen's son Erdan, 5.
Bhujpur police station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Kabir Hossain earlier said: “Three women and a child have been burned to death while the family was on their way to Baramasia, Fatikchhari after receiving Dubai-returned relative Shafiur Alam from Chittagong’s Shah Amanat International Airport around 4am."
However, police later informed that Erdan was still alive.
Of the injured, four have been admitted at Chittagong Medical College Hospital and three were released after giving primary treatment.
The gas cylinder of the running microbus exploded all of a sudden, said Fatikchhari Fire Brigade Station Master Kiriti Ranjan Barua.
However, he could not confirm any specific reason behind the explosion.
