Mosharraf sent to jail after remand

Update : 16 Mar 2014, 12:17 PM

A Dhaka court has sent BNP leader Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain to jail, after completion of three days remand in a money laundering case.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shahriar Mahmud Adnan passed the order on Sunday afternoon after police produced him before the court.

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the lawsuit on February 6 alleging Mosharraf to have laundered about Tk9.54 crore to the UK during 2001-06.

He and his wife opened an account in the UK, in violation of Bangladesh’s laws during his time in office as the minister for health and family welfare during BNP rule.

On February 10, the High Court granted Mosharraf a six-week anticipatory bail, which was annulled on February 24 by the Supreme Court on an ACC petition.

He was re-arrested on March 12 and another Dhaka court placed him on a three-day remand on March 13.
