BNP-backed candidates boycott poll in Bagerhat

Update : 15 Mar 2014, 07:56 AM

BNP-backed candidates have boycotted the poll alleging that their polling agents were barred from entering polling centres in Morrelganj upazila in Bagerhat on Saturday.

BNP-backed chairman candidate Abdul Mojeed Zabbar and female vice chairman candidate Shahin Ferdouz Happy boycotted the poll raising the allegation.

They also claimed that the police was not paying attention to the complaints as a local MP was misusing his power to influence them.

UNO Abdul Halim said: “They had come to me with their complaints; however there is no chance to accept written complaints at this time.”

He said: “If they want to boycott the poll, then it is their wish.”

The UNO said he had no information regarding any problems in the polling centres.

After getting a call about a polling centre being occupied, he directed the person on the other side of the phone to take necessary steps regarding the matter.
