All other candidates except the ruling AL backed one in Muladi upazila parishad election of Barisal within first half of the election day on Saturday.
After the announcements of boycotting election by BNP backed candidate Abdus Sattar Khan at 10:30am, Awami League rebel candidate Abdul Malek Rari, Jatiya Party (Ershad) candidate Abdul Majid and BNP rebel candidate Belal Fakir also announced their decisions of boycotting Muladi upazila election.
The candidates alleged open rigging by capturing vote centres, ousting polling agents, barring voters from coming to vote centres, biasness of election officials as causes of election boycotting.
Now, only Awami League backed chairman candidate Tarikul Hasan Mithu remains in election race.
Denying all allegations Tarikul said rival candidates boycotted election assuming their sure defeat.
