President for tolerance among politicians

Update : 14 Mar 2014, 02:27 PM

President Abdul Hamid has said tolerance among the politicians will have to be continued for the sake of the country’s development.

The president made the call at a reception accorded to him by the Kishoreganj Zila Samity, Dhaka at Osmani Memorial Auditorium on Friday afternoon.

“Politicians tried to stand beside each other during the crisis period of the country. This tolerance among the politicians will have to be continued,” he said.

Abdul Hamid added: “Throughout my life, I tried to maintain good relations among the politicians despite having political and ideological differences.”

As a result, the president said political violence never took place in Kishoreganj district.

He also called upon people from all walks of life to make active cooperation with the government for ensuring country's overall development.

“The government's responsibility is to create development friendly atmosphere, including infrastructure, while the peoples' duty is to make it successful by taking active participation,” he said.

President Abdul Hamid said it is a responsibility of all to expedite the advancement of democracy and to make it more meaningful through maintaining democratic norms and values.

“It is very natural in the democratic system that there will be differences of opinions among the various political parties. However, we have to work together for the greater welfare of the country as well as the nation,” he said.
