A child has been killed as a truck rammed him at Dorgah Gate area on Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Habiganj on Friday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Abdur Razzak, 8, son of Lemon Mia of Barushor village under Nasirnagar upazila in Brahmanbaria.
Local sources said a Sylhet-bound truck rammed Abdur while he ran to cross the road in Dorgah Gate area around 3:15am, killing him on the spot.
A group of people, including Abdur’s family were going to Baniachang upazila in Habiganj on a bus. The incident took place when they got down from the bus as its tyre got punctured at Dorgah Gate area.
Meanwhile, the people blocked the highway halting the movement of vehicles for half an hour.
On information, Shayestaganj highway police went to the spot and recovered the body.
Shayestaganj highway police station Sub-Inspector Kamal Uddin confirmed about the death to the Dhaka Tribune.
He said the truck has been seized; however the driver fled the spot.
