Nrityajog mesmerises audience with dance performances

Bangladesh chapter of World Dance Alliance-Asia Pacific (WDA-AP) - ‘Nrityajog’ - organised a daylong event for Bangladeshi dancers on the occasion of its annual general meeting at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in the capital on March 12. 

The programme included workshops, a general meeting and dance performances. Participants were trained during the workshop by Sharmila Banerjee and Belayet Hossain Khan.

Starting at 9am, the programme continued till 8pm. More than a hundred dancers and over 12 organisations participated in the programme. 

The closing programme began with Pushpanjali which is an invocatory dance in Bharatanatyam. School of Oriental Dance performed Thillana which is usually the culminating piece of a Bharatanatyam performance. Graceful body movements and some elements of Abhinaya (acting) combined with Thillana mesmerised the audience. Ore Ayre Tobe Mati Anonde by Chaturanga followed the programme.

A dance recitation called Nrityalekkhya which was based on the best songs of Tagore and Jodi Tor Dak Shune Keu Na Ashe was performed by Drupodalok from Rajshahi. A dance recitation based on poet Shamsur Rahman’s Sadhinota Tumi was performed by Nrityashoili from Sylhet. Folk dance recitals on Bauler Ektarate Achhe Matir Sur and Santali were performed by Cholo Bodle Jai Sangskritik Gosthi. Chhonde Anonde Nritya Kendra performed another folk dance on Ogo Bhabijan. The final performance was Bhoy Ki Morone by Nrityashoili.

General Secretary and Chairman of WDA-AP Lubna Marium, president of WDA-AP Sharmila Banerjee, Golam Mostafa Khan, vice-president of Bangladesh Nritya Shilpi Sangstha (BNSS) and member of BNSS Saju Khadem, president of Bangladesh Television Nritya Shilpi Sangstha Hasan Emam addressed the audience during the closing session.
