Miscreants snatched Tk10 lakh from two employees of a jewellery shop in the Tantibazar area of the capital on Thursday afternoon, claimed the injured employees.

The miscreants also attacked the employees with gunshots and exploded crude bombs leaving them injured with bullets.

Injured employees Rakib and Sumon of Alok Jewellers located at Baitul Mukarram National Jam-e-Mosque market were admitted to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Police recovered five unexploded bombs left abandoned by the criminals at the crime scene.

The condition of the injured, Rakib and Sumon, was stated to be critical as both the youths sustained at least two bullet wounds and injuries from the bomb attacks at different parts of their bodies.

Inspector Rafiqul Islam, operation officer of Kotwali police station, told the Dhaka Tribune that the incident took place at Prosanna Podder Lane of Tantibazar at around 1:45pm.

“We heard that a gang of criminals looted Tk10 lakh from the employees of Alok Jewellers leaving them injured,” said Rafiqul Islam.

According to the injured employees of Alok Jewellers, a gang of six to seven criminals swooped in on Rakib and Sumon when they were on the way to Tantibazar along with the money to collect ornaments for the jewellery shop.

The criminals fired at least 10 to 12 rounds of bullets indiscriminately leaving the employees injured. They fled the scene through explosions of six to seven crude bombs, said the employees.
