2 Lalmonirhat land grabbers held

Two activists of the ruling Awami League have been detained for their alleged involvement in grabbing Hindu property in Patgram upazila, Lalmonirhat.

The two activists Anar Khan, 55, and his brother Sultan Khan, 58, have been arrested on Tuesday morning in line with a High Court order regarding this matter.

Patgram police Officer-in-Charge Prodip Kumar Roy confirmed the arrest. “We are trying to arrest all the land grabbers according to the High Court's order.”

On February 9, Awami League supporters allegedly picked up Bhabani Kanta Sen and his two sons from Rasulpur village and held them hostage.

Later, the hostages were said to have been released after being forced to transfer ownership of a piece of land to Bawra union Awami League President Rabiul Islam Miron.

A case was filed against Awaim League Bawra union President Rabiul Islam Miron, Vice President Nazrul Islam, Jubo League Bawra union Mukul hossain, Anar and Sultan.

On Monday, the High Court ordered local police to arrest the perpetrators in 48 hours in response to a petition from Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh.

The court also asked Lalmonirhat police superintendent to submit a report to the court in this regard.
