Dhaka College students clash with police

Students of Dhaka College have locked into a clash with the law enforces during their movement for upgrading the college into a full fledged university.

Transport movement came to a halt on the roads in front of the college in the capital’s New Market area.

Before the clash, they brought out processions inside the college campus on Tuesday afternoon.

During the clash, chases and counter chases took place between the law enforcers and several hundred students, who also pelted brick chips at the law enforcers.

The clash erupted around 11:30am when police tried to remove the demonstration brought on by the students, who had taken to the streets putting blockades on the roads, forcing transport movement to be halted and creating traffic jam.

The students launched the agitation as part of their sequel movement launched earlier on March 4.

Inspector Yiasir Arafat, officer-in-charge of New Market police station, however, claimed that the transport movement had remained normal.

On March 4, several thousand students of the college took to the streets by putting blockades on the roads from the capital’s High Court to, to press home their demand.
