Injured BCL man dies

A BCL leader ,who was hit by a bullet on Saturday, during a clash between the supporters of Awami League-backed chairman candidate and its rebel candidate in Gazipur, died at Apollo Hospital in the capital yesterday.

The deceased Al-Amin Sheikh, 21, was the assistant secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League Sreepur upazila unit.

According to sources, the supporters of Iqbal Hossain Sabuj, AL-backed chairman aspirant in the upazila, brought out a procession on the occasion of upazila election, scheduled for March 15, and gathered at the upazila AL office at 10:45am

About half-an-hour later, the supporters of rebel candidate Abdul Jalil also brought out a procession and tried to take position in front of the AL office, triggering the clash with the supporters of Sabuj.

At least 50 people including Al-Amin were injured and eight vehicles were torched during the clash.

Al-Amin was sent to Uttara Red Crescent Hospital in Dhaka. Later, he was shifted to Apollo Hospital at night where he died.

The body of Al-Amin was sent to his village home at Sreepur in the afternoon.

Local AL leaders, UNO and the OC of Sreepur police station among others attended his namaz-e-janaza.

Attending  to the janaza, the lawmaker of Gazipur-3 advocate Rohomot Ali said he never saw such a clash in Sreepur in his 64-year political carrier.

He urged to take legal actions against the killer.

UNO Aziz Hayder Bhuiya and OC Amir Hossain said that they were trying to keep the law order situation under control following the clash ahead of the election.

Two cases were filed with Sreepur police station over the clash.
