UNESCO praises Sheikh Hasina

Director General of UNESCO Irina Bokova has praised Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her outstanding contribution to women empowerment and girls’ education, BSS reports.

The appreciation came when the UNESCO DG was talking to journalists at the inauguration of an exhibition organised to celebrate International Women's Day at the Paris headquarters of the UN body on Friday. 

The exhibition was organised to overview the challenges, shortcomings and success of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), specially the portions deal with women and girls. 

The exhibition brought together artworks of leading women artists from eight countries -- like Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Benin, Bulgaria, Canada, Peru and Russia- representing the status of women in various regions of the world

Irina Bokova also praised the quality of artworks of Bangladesh women artists displayed at the exhibition.

Rokeya Sultana and Kanak Chanpa Chakma, two eminent women artists from Bangladesh, have been selected to represent Asia- Pacific region with their 11 paintings

Ambassador Shahidul Islam, permanent representative of Bangladesh to the UNESCO, was present in the inauguration ceremony as one of the co-organisers of the events.
