The activists of Juba League and Chhatra League have made an attack at Kabirhat police station early Thursday over a rumour of the detention of Kabirhat municipal Mayor Jahrul Haque.
At least 13 people including three policemen were injured in the attack.
The injured policemen are Md Yasin, Md Qaiyum and Babul Mia. Of the injured, four has been admitted to Noakhali Medical College Hospital.
Kabirhat police station Officer-in-Charge Mahabub Alam said: “Jahrul Haque came to the police station at around 1:30am and misbehaved with police. At one point, his supporters attacked the police station over the rumour of his detention.”
The ruling party activists also vandalised the windows and doors and threw bricks aiming the police station, said the OC.
Later, police fired 40 rounds of bullets of shotgun to disperse them, he added.
Jahrul Haque said he came to police station to see the two detainees of his area.
After some time, the activists of Juba and Chhatra League attacked the police station over the rumour.
