Policemen have been attacked by “locals” during a raid to nab suspects of regular cases in Fatikchhari upazila, Chittagong in the early hours of Wednesday.
At least six policemen including the Fatikchhari police station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Shahjahan has been injured in the assault, police said.
Sub Inspector Shafiqul Islam was gravely injured and taken to Chittagong Combined Military Hospital, Chittagong police (north) Additional Superintendent Mohammad Shahidullah said.
Law enforcers conducted a drive in Dakhhin Kanchan Nagar area of the Fatikchhari upazila to catch suspects of regular cases, the SP said.
“Locals pounced on police calling them robbers,” he added. “At least six policemen including Fatikchhari OC have been injured in the assault.”
The injured policemen, except for the seriously injured SI, have been given local treatments.
