A Kushtia court has sentenced 12 people to lifetime imprisonment for killing Koia union Chairman and local Awami League Organising Secretary Jamil Hossain Bachchu.
Judge Akhter Hossain of district Speedy Trial Tribunal pronounced the verdict on Wednesday afternoon.
Meanwhile, the court has acquitted 23 people as their involvement with the murder was not proved.
The life-timers are Kumarkhali upazila Krishak League General secretary Ibrahim Hossain, his brothers Shamim and Habil, Zia, his brothers Dablu and Manik, Saheb, Jahangir, Mithu, Mukul, Razzak and Bakul.
Of the convicted, Manik and Bakul are absconding.
Bachchu was shot to dead on July 25, 2009. Later, his brother Swapan filed a murder case against 14 people.
The Investigation Officer of the case, Gokul Chandra Adhikari filed the charge sheet against a total of 35 people on September 7, 2010.
Of the accused, Azbahar, Biplob and Aroj were killed in a crossfire.
