'Terrorist' killed in Chuadanga 'gunfight'

A man has been killed in what a police official says gunfight in Damurhuda upazila, Chuadanga in the early hours of Wednesday.

The dead is Abul Kashem, 35, son of late Juron Ali from Damurhuda upazila. Police said Kashem was a terrorist and had several criminal cases against him.

A patrol team of the police was attacked in Kanaibabur Aam Bagan area at Boalmari around 3am, Damurhuda police Officer-in-Charge Ahsan Habib said.

“The miscreants hurled three crude bombs and opened gunfire,” he told the Dhaka Tribune. “The law enforcers were compelled to fire back.”

The body of Abul Kashem was recovered from the spot later, he added. Police retrieved a local-made gun, five rounds of bullets and four crude from scene.

“Abul Kashem is a terrorist. He has several cases against him, including murder and abduction, at various police stations including Damurhuda police station.”

The incident took place amidst nationwide protest within the country against what protesters are stating extrajudicial killings.
