Jamuna Oil depot fire: 2 responsible directly

Two officials have been made responsible directly over the fire incident at the depot of state-run Jamuna Oil Company Limited in the port city’s Patenga on Friday evening.

BPC Chairman Md Eunusur Rahman has told this to the Dhaka Tribune.

Earlier in the morning, the probe committee headed by SM Rejoan Hossain, director (marketing) of Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC), has submitted its report to its chairman.

Jamuna Oil Company Limited Engineer Musfiqur Rahman and Abul Bashar, assistant general manager of Jamuna Oil Depot at Patenga have been made responsible directly for the incident as they were not present during transferring the octain, the committee said.

However, Jamuna Oil Company Managing Director Alimuddin and its Deputy General Manager Md Manjur Rahman have been made responsible indirectly as they did not supervise the work accordingly.

On Sunday, two separate probe bodies were formed over the fire incident.

BPC formed a five-member probe committee led by its director (marketing) SM Rejoan Hossain to investigate the matter while the probe body was asked to submit the report within Monday.

Besides, Fire Service and Civil Defence authorities formed another three-member probe committee led by its Assistant Director Mohammad Yiahia of Chittagong Headquarters to look into the matter and it would hopefully submit the report within seven days.
