National Flag Day has been celebrated at Dhaka University campus on Sunday marking the hoisting of our national flag on the campus on this day in 1971.
National Flag Festival-2014 committee and Joyoddhony, a Dhaka University based cultural organisation, jointly celebrated National Flag Day.
In the morning, Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor AAMS Arefin Sidique inaugurated the program by hoisting national flag at the foot of the university’s Aparajeyo Bangla.
Then a cultural program was held where several cultural organisations participated and staged colourful programmes.
A procession was also brought out bearing national flags which marched different streets of the campus.
The first designer of our National Flag, Shib Narayan Das, addressed the discussion rally.
“We made the flag for our liberation, for a nation, democracy and to make a non-communal Bangladesh,” Shib Narayan Das said.
The first national flag was hoisted in Bangladesh for the first time at a students’ gathering in the Dhaka University campus. The then vice-president of Dhaka University Students’ Union, ASM Abdur Rab, raised the flag on behalf of the students.
