Road accident kills 3 in Barisal

At least three people have been killed and 20 others injured as a night coach plunged into a roadside ditch in Rampatty area on Barisal-Dhaka highway in Barisal.

The deceased was identified as Rustam Ali, 40, of Madaripur and driver, Yazmul, 30, of Dashmina and supervisor, Razu, 20, of Gournadi and helper of the bus.

Barisal Airport police station in-charge Shaheduzzaman confirmed the incident to the Dhaka Tribune.

Meghna Paribahon Regional Counter in-charge Joynal Mia said: “The Dashmina-bound bus had left Dhaka Saidabad bus terminal with 50 passengers around 6pm Saturday evening.”

“The bus crushed into a roadside tree and fell into a ditch as the driver lost his control when the bus’ front tyre got punctured around 4am in Rampatty on Barisal-Dhaka highway,” he said.

He said the driver and supervisor died on spot while the helper died at Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH).

Hospital sources said among the 13 injured admitted in the hospital, five of them were sent to Dhaka as their condition deteriorated.
