Poll violence victim policeman dies

The village policeman, who was injured in a clash during the second phase of Upazaila Parishad polls at Sonaimuri upazila, Noakhali, died early Sunday at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).

The deceased was identified as Jamal Uddin, 52, son of late Abdul Hakim Moulavi, hailed from Dhannopur village of the upazila.

He succumbed to his injuries at about 4:00 am while undergoing treatment at DMCH, said DMC police outpost in-charge Inspector Mozammel Haque.

"Jamal Uddin received serious injuries during a clash between the two rival groups centering the UZ polls at Dhonnopur Dakhil Madrasa polling centre on February 27, " Officer-in-Charge  (OC) of Soanimuri Police Station Abdus Samad told the Dhaka Tribune.

"The victim was doing his professional duty during the clash," he added.

The body has been kept at DMCH morgue.
