After 43 days of taking oath, state minister MA Mannan, who has virtually passed an idle days at his office without any work since the installation of the new government on 12 January, 2014, has finally got his job to work.
Although MA Mannan was given the portfolio of the state minister of the ministry of finance, which has been single handling by the finance minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith for the last seven consecutive years, he has been deprived of performing any duties and responsibilities for the at least 43 days.
Finally, finance minister on 26 February signed a letter, stating the duties and responsibilities of his deputy to back him to work.
“Finance ministry has finally identified the areas of work and responsibilities for the state minister for finance. His main jobs include looking after the activities of the Economic Relation Division (ERD), getting preparation for the enactment of necessary laws and also involving in the ongoing reform activities of the ministries and division,” said an official.
Another senior official of the finance division said, “The finance minister himself distributed the routine work the state minister two days ago.’’
According to finance ministry officials, Finance Minister AMA Muhith sent a letter to four secretaries of the finance division and the ERD on February 26, distributing the job responsibilities of the MA Mannan.
The four secretaries are – finance division, ERD, internal resources division and chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) and Bank and Financial Institutions Division.
“Obey the activities of the finance minister and the then the state minister will take complete responsible other matters of the ERD,’’ reads the letter.
The letter also directed the state minister to take initiative to enact law, amendment of law and cancel of the law, state minister of the finance will also give consent about the new law, said the letter.
State minister will involve all types of reform activities of ministry and divisions, letter said.
Finance minister’s letter also revealed that the state minister would give decision on the ministry staffs, foreign tours, trainings and his deputy will take care the staffs leave related matters.
