Jamaat-BNP galore in Chittagong

Jamaat-e-Islami and BNP bagged the two chairman posts in two upazilas of Chittagong in the second phase of the upazila election held on Thursday.

Jamaat-backed Frid Uddin Khan bagged Lohagara upazila with 49,759 votes, Assistant Returning Officer Mohammad Fijnur Rahman said. Awami League’s Ziaul Haque Chowdhury came second with 36,219 votes.

Jamaat’s Mohammad Nurul Abser and Gulshan Ara Begum bagged the position of vice chairman and women vice chairman respectively, the official said.

In Patiya upazila, BNP’s Mozaffar Ahmad won chairmanship with 81,458 votes, Assistant Returning Officer Rokeya Parvin said. Nearest contestant was Awami League’s Nasir Ahmad with 30,018 votes.

Islamic Front candidate Syed Year Mohammad Pearu won the vice chairmanship while BNP’s Afroza Begum secured the post of female vice chairman.
