Miscreants have attacked the motorcade of Sheikh Afil Uddin, lawmaker elect for Jessore -1, on Wednesday at noon.
The motorcade came under terrorist attack at Jhikargachha on Jessore-Benapole Road on its way to Sharsha, said AL sources.
Sheikh Afil Uddin have told journalists that a number of terrorists attacked his motorcade while he was coming towards Benapole on Wednesday. But he escaped harm as the driver fled the scene quickly and took shelter at Sharsha police station.
The Awami League and its front organization held a protest rally at Sharsha Bazar after the attack.
Sirajul Haque Manju, president, Sharsha upazila unit Awami League chaired the rally addressed, among others, by Nuruzzaman, general secretary and Sohrab Hossain, president, Sharsha upazila unit Juba League.
The speakers have demanded arrest and exemplary punishment for the attackers.
The election of the Sharsha upazila parishad is scheduled to be held on Thursday.
Four people, including two AL leaders, were wounded in a gun attack at Benapole on the night of February 24 over internal feud of AL before the upazila election.
