A Dhaka court has sentenced seven persons to life time imprisonment for killing a student of Jagannath University.
Meanwhile, the court also sentenced a woman to three years imprisonment for committing the same offence.
Dhaka Speedy Trial tribunal 2 Judge Md Nuruzzaman pronounced the verdict on Wednesday afternoon.
The court also fined each of seven life time convicts Tk20, 000 while the woman convict Tk5,000. In case of failing to pay the money the life time convicts will have to serve one more year in the jail and the woman one more month.
The life timers are uncle of the victim Kamal Hossain Jewel, Meraj (absconding), Ashraful, Mahmud Misu, Mostafa Kamal, Sarif Ahmed and Mohammad Roni. The woman is Rajia Begum.
On October 5, 2008, the body of JnU third-year student Hasib Humayun Prince was recovered from a CNG filling station of Narayanganj hours after he left his Azimpur house with one of the convicts Meraj.
Later, Prince’s father Shamsul Hossain filed a case against the accused.
Jewel killed Prince with the help of other convicts as Prince obstructed him from having an extra-marital affair, said the case statement.
