BSF kills Bangladeshi in Joypurhat

Indian Border Security Force (BSF) shot a Bangladeshi national dead at Panchbibi upazila frontier, Joypurhat in the early hours of Wednesday.

The dead has been identified as Azuizul Haque, 30, a cattle trader and son of Tofazzal Hossain from the upazila, according to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).

BSF shot cattle traders entering Gayeshpur, India near the 12 and 13th pillars of the Hatkhola frontier around 3am, BGB 3 Captain Lt Col Abdur Razzak Tarafdar said.

“Tofazzal Hossain was shot and died on the spot,” he said. Procedures are underway to hand over the body.

A total of 38 Bangladeshis died after being shot by Indian border security forces in 2013, according to BGB.

In September last year, a director general-level meeting was held in Dhaka between border guards of Bangladesh and India regarding border killings.
