The Ispahani 30th National Team Bridge Championship 2013 organised by Bangladesh Bridge Federation will get underway at the Engineers Recreation Centre, Ramna at 6pm tomorrow.
A total of 16 teams including three or four from outside Dhaka will be taking part in the meet which will end on March 7. After five sessions of qualifying rounds, six teams will get the ticket for the round robin league.
The top four finishers will reach the semi-final after five sessions of round robin league. The semi-finals and the final will be played in four and six sessions respectively.
A press conference regarding the tournament was held yesterday where the details were revealed. The budget of the meet is Tk250,000. The champions will receive Tk30,000 while the runners-up will get Tk18,000 as prize money.
Mesbahur Rahman Khan, the general secretary of the federation, explained why they are organizing 2013’s event in 2014, “We could not hold the tournament last year due to political unrest in the country. Hopefully we will organise this year’s event in time.”
Chairman of Ispahani Group of Companies Mirza Ali Behrouze Ispahani was also present on the occasion. He said, “Some of the people have misconceptions about bridge. It’s not gambling, it’s world known sports that reflects intelligence.”
