The Language hero Kazi Golam Mahboob, the convener of Shorbodolio Kendrio Rashtrabhasha Kormoparishad (All-Party Central Language Action Committee) in 1952, was remembered on Friday, Ekushey February, the language martyrs and international mother language day, at his native village Kasba of Gournadi under Barisal district.
'Bhasha Soinik Kazi Golam Mahboob Foundation' organized the programmes of putting flower wreaths and visiting his graveyard and central Shaheed Minar of Gournadi municipal town, discussion, holding doa and milad mahfil.
The discussion programme at Kasba primary school ground was presided over by Nurul Matin Masuk, vice-president of the foundation.
The programme was addressed, among others, Jahurul Islam Jahir, secretary of the foundation, Kazi Azizul Huq Thanda, assistant secretary of the foundation and relative of Kazi Golam Maboob, Kazi Toufiq Hasan, municipal councilor, Rafiqul Islam, Gournadi Reporter's Unity president, Khadiza Akhtar, former president of the school committee, Qutubuddin, secretary upazila teachers association, Abdul Matin, teacher, Uttam Das, journalist, and Belal Hossain, president upazila Bandhu Sava.
Speakers and participants of the programme discussed life and achievement of the language hero Kazi Golam Mahboob. They stressed on more studying as well as researching on his life and achievements.
They said locally popular on his nick name 'Chharu Kazi," was not only the soldier of language movement, however, also a commander of language movement.
They called for opening a 'Bhasha Museum' on language movement at his birth place and naming local institutions and the part of Barisal-Dhaka national highway crossing by the side of his birth place and graveyard on Kazi Golam Mahboob.
Mentionable Kazi Golam Mahboob, son of local farmer movement leader Kazi Abdul Mazid and Aasiya Khatun, was born in Kashba Kazi Bari on December 23, 1927.
Kazi family was connected with Sher-E-Bangla Fazlul Huq and Kazi Mahboob went to Calcutta Islamia College. There he was elected as the VC of the college's student assembly in 1946.
He took part at the 1948 language movement as a student of political science of Dhaka University by joining the Students Action Committee and was arrested for it.
On March 11, 1948, he was arrested while picketing for Hartal demanding recognition of Bangla as the state language.
Failing to appear in the final exams, he later joined the law department of Dhaka University as an LLB student. In 1949, he was again arrested for assisting a strike at Dhaka University.
On January 31, 1952, when Shorbodolio Kendrio Rashtrabhasha Kormoparishad was founded, Mahboob was selected as its convener.
Kazi Golam Mahboob attended the meeting at Amtala on February 21, 1952 and as convener of the Karmoparishad joined in the rally to violate section 144 on February 21, 1952.
Later on, he was arrested and spent one year in prison.
Kazi Mahboob was one of the founding members of the Awami League.
At the later part of his political life, he became the founding Vice President of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Dal.
He was also elected president of the Supreme Court Bar Association in 1994.
He was laid to eternal rest at his family graveyard in Kasba after his death on March 19, 2006, in Dhaka.
