50 high officials’ posts upgraded

The government has finally upgraded the posts of 50 high officials into grade 1 and grade 2 with the approval of the President and the Prime Minister.

Out of 50, 30 posts were upgraded to grade 1 which is equivalent to the secretary status and 20 posts were upgraded to grade 2 which is equivalent to the additional secretary status.

The Ministry of public administration published a gazette notification on Wednesday, regarding the initiative which was issued on Monday.

The status of four members of the internal resources division, chairman of Bangladesh small and cottage industries corporation, director general of Bangladesh employees welfare board, director general of NGO bureau, director general of Bangladesh postal department, director general of department of fisheries, director general of department of livestock, principal information officer of PID, chief conservator of forest, chief engineer of roads and highway division and chief engineer of public works department were upgraded to grade 1 status.

The status of director general of Bangladesh railway, director general of directorate of secondary and higher secondary education, comptroller general of audit, comptroller general of defense finance, director general of directorate of land record and survey, director general of department of environment, director general of planning and development academy, chairman of RAJUK, director general of directorate of food and director general of narcotics control department were also upgraded to grade 1 status.

The status of director general of Bangladesh Ansar and VDP directorate, chairman of Bangladesh rural electrification board, director general of directorate of health services, director general of directorate of primary education, executive director of Bangladesh computer council, general of Bangladesh rural development board, chief engineer of local government engineering department and director general of department of public health engineering were also upgraded to grade 1.

The posts which were upgraded to grade 2 with the status of additional secretary are- vice chairman of export promotion bureau, director general and registrar of department of cooperatives, inspector general of prison, director general of department of printing, forms and publication, transport commissioner of public transport pools, registrar of department of patent designs and trademarks, director general of Bangladesh industries technical assistance center (BITAC), managing director of jibon bima corporation, chairman of Bangladesh fisheries development corporation, chairman of Bangladesh forest industries development corporation, director general of department of film and publications, chairman of Bangladesh civil aviation authority, managing director of Bangladesh hi-tech park authority, chairman of Bangladesh tourism corporation, director general of directorate of youth development, director general of directorate of social welfare, director general of directorate of women affairs, director general of department of disaster management, director general of directorate of mass communication and director general of department of family planning.

The public administration ministry’s additional secretary Sohrab Hossain told the Dhaka Tribune that the ministry finally issued the order after getting approval from the high ups of the government. The process of upgrading the posts was started before a long time during the previous tenure of the government; however, it was not possible to upgrade the posts that time. The ministries and authorities concerned will take steps to upgrade the posts from the date the ministry issued the order, he added.
