Officials of the district administration has visited the family of 1952 language martyr Abul Barakat in Gazipur after reports run on harassment of the family.
The officials assured the family of all legal assistance after February 21.
On Tuesday, Dhaka Tribune ran a report on allegations from on behalf of the family that a local Ward councillor has been demanding money from them.
Gazipur Deputy Commissioner Nurul Islam said martyr Barakat's nephew Ainuddin Barkat lodged a complaint seeking alleviation from the extortion on Tuesday.
The complaint was made against Gazipur City Corporation Ward 18 Councillor Safar Ali, he said. A copy of the complaint has been forwarded to district police superintendent.
After the report was published, Gazipur Nezarat Deputy Collector (NDC) Sazid Anwar and Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Fouzia Khanam visited the family on Wednesday.
