Voting suspended in 1 centre of Sonatola

Voting for the upazila election has been suspended until further notice in one polling centre of Sonatola upazila in Bogra following allegations of vote rigging.

Confirming the status, Additional Police Super of the district Abu Sayem said the polling in Nouda Boga centre has been suspended following a chase and counter chase between the supporters of the Awami League and the BNP candidates.

Police fired rubber bullets in order to control the situation.

Besides, casting of votes had been suspended at Huakua and Pakulla polling centres.

Locals said the supporters of Awami League chairman candidate MdZiaulKarim Shampoo have allegedly snatched the ballot boxes and obstructed people from casting their votes in Huakua polling centre in the upazila.

Confirming the status, Additional Police Super of the district Abu Sayem said votes have been suspended from 11am.

On the other hand, the supporters of the local Awami League and the BNP candidates engaged in a chase and counter-chase in the Pakulla voting centre during the vote, halting the polling process since 11am.

Later, the local administration started the voting procedure in these centres in the afternoon.

Voting is underway for the first phase of upazila election throughout 97 upazilas of the country. Votes began at 8am and will continue until 4pm.
