2 shot in Narayanganj clash

At least two were shot and three others injured when Juba League activists allegedly attacked supporters of a ward councillor in Narayanganj Sadar upazila.

Siddhirganj Thana Jubo League Convener Matiur Rahman, alias Sundar Moti, a follower of Narayanganj-4 MP Shamim Osman, has been engaged in rivalry with Ward 6 Councillor Serajul Islam, locals said.

Supporters of Moti attacked those of Councilor Seraj in Sonamia Market area in Narayanganj Sadar on Tuesday night around 9:30pm, witnesses said.

Supporters of Seraj group Sohag and Shishir were shot when supporters of Moti opened gunfire. Three others were beaten up at the scene.

Those with bullet injuries have been sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in a serious condition. The others were taken to Narayanganj Hospital.

Councilor Serajul Islam said his supporters were attacked by Jubo League activists of Moti group. According to him, those shot were in critical condition.

Siddhirganj Thana Jubo League Convener Motiur Rahman Moti refuted the claims. “I have come to know that fighting sprouted from a silly matter. I do not know about the shooting.”

Siddhirganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Matin endorsed the information and said police were sent to the spot after the clash.
