Minister Mohsin visits juvenile centre

Social Welfare Minister Mohsin Ali visited the Gazipur Juvenile Correctional Centre on Tuesday.

The visit came days after 20 boys, aged between 14 and 18, cut themselves demanding the removal of their acting supervisor alleging torture.

The minister inquired about the health and treatment of the juveniles and talked to them regarding their difficulties with their facilities.

The minister even sang songs with the injured juveniles. He visited the dormitories in the centres and distributed sweets among them.

Minister Mohsin said the children had cut themselves up because one of them was scolded for intake of drugs. “The incident is saddening.”

He said a probe committee that has been formed after the incident will file its report soon. “The main picture of the incident will come out in the report.”

Gazipur-2 MP Jahid Ahsan Rasel, Social Welfare Bureau acting director general of Aiyub Hossain, Joint Secretary Mishkat Hossain Chowdhury, Director Moazzem Hossain, Julfiker Haider, Deputy Director of the centre Azahar Ali Mia accompanied the minister on the visit.
