Children buried, probe body formed

A probe body was formed on Sunday afternoon to investigate the tragic incident which left seven school children dead in Benapole, Jessore.

The children were laid to rest at their family graveyards after Namaj-e-Janaza in the afternoon, in the presence of a shock-stricken crowd at the Benapole Ballfield.

“A four-member probe panel, led by Additional Deputy Commissioner Sabina Yeasmin, has been formed.” said Deputy Commissioner Mostafizur Rahman.

The seven children, students of Benapole Government Primary School, died after a picnic bus skidded off the road and plunged into a pond on Saturday night.

About 75 teachers and students were rescued, Chaugachha police Officer-in-Charge Matiar Rahman told the Dhaka Tribune. “The seven children died on the spot.”

The names of those seven children were: Suraiya, 11, her sister Jebia Akhter, 8, Mithila, 11, Runa, 10, her brother Shanto, 11, Ankhi, 11 and Sabbir Hossain, 10.
