An alleged robber died in gunfight with villagers and law enforcers in Ghagrachhara area under Kulaura upazila of Moulvibazar early Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Babul, 30, son of Abdul Haq, of Islamnagar of Kulaura in the district.
Kulaura UNO Md Shamsul Islam confirmed about the death and gunfight incidents to the Dhaka Tribune.
Two police constables – HabiburRahman and Fazlul Haq- were injured in the incident, said Kulaura police station OC Hasanuzzaman.
A gang of robbers were organising in Rubberbaghan area of Ghagrachhara for committing robbery. On information, villagers attacked them. In retaliation, the robbers opened fire on them, Kulaura police station duty officer Aklima Aktar said.
Later, Police rushed to the spot and a gunfight took place between robbers and police-villagers, leaving robber Babul dead and two policemen injured, she added.
Police recovered a gunshot, 3 rounds of bullet and some lethal weapons from the spot, Aklima added.
