An alleged robber ringleader of 'Siraj Bahini' died in gunfight with law enforcers in the Sundarbans area under Paikgachha upazila of Khulna, police said on Saturday.
The dead was identified as Siraj Shikder, 50, son of Jahur Shikder from Rampal area of Bagerhat, an accused of one robbery case, police said.
Paikgachha police station Officer-in-Charge Mashiur Rahman said law enforcers detained Siraj from Bagerhat's Rampal area on Thursday.
Later on Friday evening, police, along with Shikder, conducted an arms recovery-raid in Karamjal tourist spot. Sensing the presence of law enforcers, Siraj's supporters opened gunfire on them, Rahman said.
Police replied with gunfire, he added. “Two police constables were injured during the gunfight. Later, Siraj was found dead at the spot.”
Police recovered three firearms, 10 rounds of bullet, four long daggers and an axe from the spot.
