A Dhaka court has sent singer Arfin Rumey to jail, cancelling his bail in a case filed by his first wife Ananya.
The court took cognisance of the charges against the singer. However, it did not fix any date for framing the charges.
Judge Arifur Rahman of Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal 4 passed the order on Thursday afternoon on the basis of a complaint filed by Ananya’s lawyer Arif Uddin Ahmed.
Ananya’s lawyer Arif Uddin Ahmed appealed for the cancellation of Rumey’s bail as he'd failed to give his wife a monthly amount of Tk20,000 and opened a fixed deposit receipt (FDR) account of Tk20 lakh in Ananya’s name.
Earlier on October 12, police arrested Rumey based on a complaint lodged by Ananya with Mohammadpur police station.
Ananya had alleged that Rumey often tortured her for dowry and that the level of torture intensified after his second marriage.
He later secured bail from the court on condition.
